Here follows a rant…

Why do we war with each other?

On a bright sunny morning why can’t we rejoice in the wonder of this world and vow to live in peace?

Human Beings have forever waged war, ever since there have been too many people to comfortably live an existence which provided all we need. When we began to travelled and saw what others had, we wanted it too, at first to share then to have exclusively. We made war for water, for access to rivers seas and oceans, for precious metals, for oil, for drugs and for slaves to do our bidding.

Our leaders taxed us compulsorily and we gave to them the means to make weapons to wage war. We still do. How much peace can you make with an aircraft carrier?

We have made war in order to dominate, to impose ideology, to prove by our might, by our prowess that we’ve got it right. We followed our living gods. Then we created gods and exported religion like a commodity to enslave those who didn’t believe or believed otherwise; our god is better than yours. Our reward after life is better than yours. We have been chosen and you too can be chosen if…

We wage war to become rich, we wage to gain and preserve the markets we have created for the products we make, including the machines for making more war. We wage war against those who wage war.

We wage war against those who have a different colour of skin…how can that be true?

We wage war against nature…how can endorse that?

We wage war against the planet that provides us with the means to live in peace or in war. How ON EARTH can we get wrong such a simple truth?

How?  Ask yourself, ask your neighbour, ask your leaders and if you believe, ask your god.

We wage war because it’s simpler than waging peace. Today we wage war we call peace by remote control.

Is it better to throw bombs than to get together and talk about peace, glory in our differences and embrace our collective future?

It’s interesting that those who have least give the most; those that have the most give the least.

With all its wealth why is The Church, any church, not stepping in to try to prevent war or at least to campaign loudly in support of those who suffer the most from war; its congregations of all faiths?

We bring up our children to share, to be tolerant and to make friends not enemies. What happens to them when they grow up? What pernicious influences divert them? Greed, intolerance, fear, power…Can Social Media be harnessed as a vehicle for promoting peace?

We forget too often that we have just one world.

Even on a cloudy wet grey morning why can’t we rejoice in the wonder of this world and vow to live in peace with our neighbour?

Good question Tony. And beautifully phrased. I asked myself that in front of a pile of skulls in Cambodia. And I ask myself everyday. But I think we all know the answers. I agree with Jude, unless the younger generation makes itself heard, there isn’t going to be anything left to fight over.

I like to think this is the final act of the 19th century warning mentality. I am encouraged by the younger generations lack of interest in acquisition of power; they are too busy with being self-interested.

  2. A very valid rant, Tony. Your last sentence must surely be what most of ask daily, as we read the horrific world news.

Thanks for your comment. I’m thoroughly dissolutioned with the politicking. There seems to be no honest commitment to solve problems, there’s always a caviat attached to policy and much covering of backs while the carnage continues. Grrr.

  3. Greed. That’s why.
    Again why?
An honest to goodness post. I’m worn out over all the stupid things man is going to man right now.

You would think given that Man is supposed to be an intelligent creature that we would have learned from the lessons of history that no-one wins in war. Would women send their sons to war if they were in charge? Would countries go to war so quickly if the King or President of the country had to physically lead his armies (as they did in the past)? Will we even have a world worth fighting over soon – once we have exhausted all the natural resources and destroyed the planet in our greed. As Gilly said. Thank you.

Wise words Jude. Thanks or your valuable comment

You’re welcome 🙂 I think a lot of our generation feel the same. I wish the younger generation would rouse themselves – after all they DO have social media to communicate through. A lot easier than we had it. But it seems to be used to promote war, not promote peace. Bring back John Lennon!

Tony calls it a rant but I totally agree with him, WHY, WHY, WHY? Pop over and read, let him know your thoughts.
